In June, 2007, the Delaware
Historical Society challenged the Delaware By Hand
artists and artisans to create an art piece that was
inspired by an object in their "Made by Delaware Hands"
exhibit at the Delaware History Museum in Wilmington,
DE. I viewed what I believed to be an Indian
blanket, and created a multi-layered fused glass blanket
made of individual diamond shaped pieces of glass which I
drilled and sewed
together with brass wire, hung from a dowel rod, and
adorned with feathers and glass beads at the bottom.
My piece won two of the
three prizes awarded--"Best in Show" and "Delaware By
Hand Choice Award," and was purchased by the Delaware
History Museum and now hangs in their permanent
collection. |

I was
honored to be chosen by the Delaware Maritime Museum
Hall of Fame to create the induction trophies that they
award to persons who have been instrumental in the
state's maritime heritage.
The trophy
is a rendering of the tall ship, the USS
Constitution. Governor Ruthann Minner unveiled
the trophy aboard the Lightship Overfalls in Lewes on
July 13, 2007. Five trophies were awarded
at a banquet held on October 6, 2007 at the Lewes
Yacht Club, and the trophies will be awarded to each
inductee every year.
